Mersin, lying along the Mediterrenean, is the capital city of Icel province
Icel is one of the most contemporary provinces of Turkey. It is located in the South Anatolia Region, south of the Taurus Mountains. The capital city of this province is Mersin. Like many cities in Turkey, this city has changed its official name. Although the official name is Içel, the old name Mersin is still favored by most.
Because of its location, Icel experiences typical Mediterranean climate - hot and humid summers, and temperate rainy winters. This city is the largest port on the Turkish Mediterranean, and its synergy of modernism with an old-world Mediterranean charm is what allures tourists. With avenues of palm trees, open parks and modern hotels, Icel makes a good base for visiting adjacent historical sites and beaches.
