Where European Countries Stand

Add comment

Germany, the biggest economic and commercial partner of Turkey, has been a major supporter in Turkey`s inclusion in EU under Chancellor Gerhard Schroder. However, with German leadership changing hands, the country may change its stance, too.

Apart from Germany, France and Austria are also a little skeptic about Turkey`s admittance in the EU. However, Greece, though traditionally against Turkey, is a staunch supporter of Turkey`s admittance in European Union owing to the view that it itself will solve all the problems.

Britain, the current owner of EU`s rotating presidency is favoring the enlargement of the union and hence the inclusion of Turkey. Similarly Poland, who has become a member state in 2004, is more or less a supporter of Turkey`s bid.
