When the Muslims came to Turkey, they brought with them their own bathing customs, which were quite different from those of the Romans and the Byzantines. The two mingled together and this together with the Muslim`s fetish for cleanliness and their respect for water created the Turkish Baths.

A typical Turkish Bath, also known as the Hamam, has three rooms. There is the caldarium or the room with a steamy hot bath, the tepidarium or the warm room for washing with soap and water and the cool room for resting afterwards.
