Attractions and Activities in Cankiri

All along the course of history, several races have come to Cankiri and all of them have left some of the remnants of their own culture. If ancient past interests you, you can find several fascinating places to visit.

There are the ruins of a 750m 11th century fortress impregnated with rock tombs and ancient tunnels, which overlook the city. The renowned Turkish architect Mimar Sinan built Ulu mosque, a reminder of the Ottoman dynasty, in the 16th century. There is also a medieval hospital called Tas Mescit which dates back to 1235. Other must-sees include the Turkish baths of the Ottoman period.

Some natural treasures are there in Cankiri, too. The Northern portion of the city is mainly covered by the Ilgaz Mountain (2560 meters), which is a real thrill for winter sports loving souls and nature admirers. The snowy peaks and the wide expanse of woodlands make Ilgaz an invincible attraction. The ski center in this region is well equipped and hence attracts tourists. The Ilgoz National park is yet another aesthetic spot. Here the rest area is called "Kadin cayiri" and it is endowed with pool, cafes, etc. Bulbul pinari some 15 kilometers Southwest of Cankiri is also picturesque spot with rest area and picnic spots.
