History of Catalhoyuk

Catalhoyuk is one of the largest and most evolved Neolithic and Chalcolithic sites ever unearthed dating back to 7500B.C. Two settlement mounds on the east and the west speak of an advanced lifestyle. The river Carsamba once meandered between these two mounds, which could have been an incentive for the growth of the civilization. However, the Neolithic settlements were abandoned before the Bronze Age. There is also proof of a Byzantine settlement a few hundred meters towards the east.
