Where European Countries Stand

Germany, the biggest economic and commercial partner of Turkey, has been a major supporter in Turkey's inclusion in EU under Chancellor Gerhard Schroder. However, with German leadership changing hands, the country may change its stance, too.

Apart from Germany, France and Austria are also a little skeptic about Turkey's admittance in the EU. However, Greece, though traditionally against Turkey, is a staunch supporter of Turkey's admittance in European Union owing to the view that it itself will solve all the problems.

Britain, the current owner of EU's rotating presidency is favoring the enlargement of the union and hence the inclusion of Turkey. Similarly Poland, who has become a member state in 2004, is more or less a supporter of Turkey's bid.
