Specifications of Istanbul Formula Track

The Formula I track in Istanbul is a truly spectacular one with a length of 5333 m and an average width of 14 to 21.5m. One unique feature of this lap is that it runs anti clockwise. The only other tracks that do so are the San Marino and Brazil. It has a total of 14 turns with eight lefts and 6 rights with a wide variety of corners. Despite being technically lesser than some other tracks, it provides enough challenge to the drivers. The Istanbul track affords a wider range of gradients as it is built on four different ground levels with rising and descending grades. The cars reached a speed of 330km/hr. on this track.

Keeping the extreme hot conditions of Turkey in mind, the driver drinking system has been innovatively designed. The drinking reservoir is kept low so that it does not disturb the center of gravity of the car. Two liters of fluid are placed at the start. A switch on the steering wheel activates a pump that pulls the liquid from the reservoir through a tube to the driver's mouthpiece through the helmet

Visiting the Istanbul Racing Circuit is a pleasure for the excellent spectator facilities that have been made. The organizers were aware that the arrangements had to ahead of the best in the world to be able to draw visitors. It surpasses the standards of Bahrain and China with a seating capacity of 155,000.The main grandstand has a seating capacity of 26,250 spectators, while the temporary stands and general admission areas fill up the rest. There are two paddock buildings. The teams are housed in the ground floor of the building while the hospitality area is on the upper floors. Towering over the circuit are two impressive VIP towers on either end of the paddock building. It consists seven floors with a seating capacity of 5000.

Keeping the convenience of the spectators in mind a parking area for around 20,000 cars has been designed along the outer peripheral ring road. While this facilitates traffic movement on the outer side, there are inner service roads and emergency lanes connected to the general admission areas. In addition, there are four under passes and three pedestrian over passes and a media tunnel for greater connectivity. Construction of a go-carting area in the central portion is in the pipeline too.
