The Ottoman Turkish history began in the late 13th century and continued till 1918. The Ottoman Empire started in Turkey with Osman I, at a time when the Seljuk rule in Turkey was coming to an end. Modern Turkey was only a part of the Empire, but so deep reaching was the impact of the Ottoman Empire that it became almost synonymous with Turkey.

The Ottoman Empire was one of the most influential Muslim empires of the 16th century, far superior in human creativity and artistry. Their influence even spilled over to Europe and marked the beginning of an Islamic presence there. The Bosnian Muslims are evidence of Ottomans' abiding influence in Europe.
